The Colchester Advice Network (C.A.N.) is an email advice service offering free, confidential and impartial advice for the residents of the Borough of Colchester. We were a partnership of nine agencies, led by the Citizens Advice Colchester, that were working together to provide debt, employment, housing and welfare benefits advice.
Providing email advice ensures that the services we provide can be accessed by those who do not know where to go or are unable to visit an advice agency. The population of the Borough of Colchester is increasing, the criteria for claiming benefits changing and there is an un-met demand for internet based advice that can be accessed via a computer or a smart phone. This service streamlines access to online advice which is available for everyone.
Citizens Advice Colchester were the lead partner having successfully secured funding from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund in 2013 to 2015. The Advice Services Transition Fund allows the not-for-profit sector to transform and adapt to a new funding environment by renewing its service models to reduce duplication, measure the different services can make to people’s lives, and bring providers together to be more efficient and effective.
The funding ceased in September 2015 and Citizens Advice Colchester are now delivering this service alone as part of their core channels for delivering advice in Colchester.
